My Papa

On my Father's side

What their home was like as a child:

Papa lived in a large ancestral home. There were many poeple living in this house. It was shared by his family and his extended family. In his family, he had his Mother, Father and six other brothers and sisters. He also lived with his Uncle's family. In his family he had his Uncle, Aunty and they had eight children. There were 14 children altogether. He enjoyed playing together when they were younger.

This religon and the impact of that on his life:

Grandpa had a very good Christian upbringing he was taught values of sharing, caring and kindness. This helped him when he was faced with challenges and needed support and guidance.

His Hobbies:

My Papa liked reading and he still enjoys it very much. He also participated in debates, drama and cricket.

What I was surprised to learn about him:

I learnt many new and surprising things about my Papa. In addition to English my Grandpa knows three other languages. He raised a flock of homing pigeons which lived in a tree nearby. The school in which he went to was called St. Xavier’s College and was built on land owned by his family.

His earliest memories...

My Grandpa was tutored at home by his Aunty. Her teaching allowed him to skip kindergarten and enter school. He also went fishing with his uncle. He taught him how to catch fish and crabs.

What he remembers about their Grandparents or Parents:

Papa's grandparents were very kind and loving and told him a lot of stories about their
life and all of the land and cattle they owned.
His grandfather was an elder in his village and was the most educated man of everyone there.

What he thinks about how life has changed from when he was young and now

If my Grandpa compared how life is now and then, he thinks that people in his day spent more time with family no one had television and mobile phones. Over the years he has found that because the world has progressed by leaps and bounds everything is now readily available. At their time they had to do a lot of research to gain knowledge, and the magic of it all was more fulfilling, rather than finding things on google and social media today. He says the discovery was a lovely part of life.
